Releasing in the latter part of this month will be EA’s second soccer title for the DS this year. Unlike the more ghetto side of things with the recently released FIFA Street 2, this one goes back to the realistic roots found around the proceedings of the World Cup. This title is to be found not just here but on the other popular hardware on the market today to be released all around the same relative time period. This licensed product will feature the home of the World Cup this year which is Germany. The game should be able to capture the emotion and feeling that comes from all the worlds’ greatest rivals in this soccer (football to the rest of the world) series of events.
2006 FIFA World Cup takes the traditional game of World Cup Soccer and recreates it in a nice 3D world to take on the go with you for your Nintendo DS. All nations that participate within the World Cup event are open to you to play in your run for the championship this year. Be your own home team or perhaps choose another nation that you may support. Electronic Arts has gone to the effort of recreating around 100 of the real life stars of the event for you to use and compete against within 2006 FIFA World Cup. Each of these recreated athletes will have their own signature moves, tactics, style and more have been put into place for you to use and abuse out on the grass, and they have been all authentically captured.
Within 2006 FIFA World Cup there are various modes of plays open to the player among other nice surprises as well. There are exactly 127 teams you can choose to play as while working your way up from the lowliest of qualifying matches up to the final game for the cup. On your way through the ranks you will have the ability to play within 12 recreated stadiums from real life locations adding a bit of a greater level of authenticity to the game. For this years release EA went back to the drawing board a bit and added in a new mode for people to enjoy as well called the Global Challenge. This mode recreates 125 classic moments within the World Cup run throughout its history with modern teams. As a reward for doing this mode you can unlock legendary players and even classic team clothing too. Again like with the other soccer title from EA this year the Nintendo DS version has unique controls open to it due to the double screen setup with touch capability. Gamers can now use the touch screen to control during gameplay various people to add more precision to your plays that would go beyond the standard reliance fully on AI because now you can change formations and tactics on the fly. Furthermore this version will have five new skill challenges, trivia challenges, and even 3D user controlled replays common to home console versions of such games.
It appears this title has shaped up to have the makings of a good soccer (football) package for the fans of the sport, and in particular the World Cup event. This game should be shipping shortly and given it was handled well should be a good buy for sports fans.

What Do You Know About The World Cup? April 20, 2006

(4/19/2006)
In June 2006, 32 national football teams around the world will converge in Germany to compete on this year’s FIFA World Cup.
Fortunately, Ghana is among the teams from Africa who are going to display their skills to the rest of the world.
Currently, the temperature for the World Cup is so high that organisations and some individuals are organising raffle draws just to get soccer lovers there to cheer the national team.
But do you know how the World Cup began?
No other sporting event captures the world’s imagination like the FIFA World Cup. Ever since the first competition in Uruguay in 1930, FIFA’s flagship has constantly grown in popularity and prestige.
A group of visionary French football administrators, led in the 1920s by the innovative Jules Rimet, are credited with the original idea of bringing the world’s strongest national football teams together to compete for the title of World Champions.
The original gold trophy bore Jules Rimet’s name and was contested three times in the 1930s, before the Second World War put a 12-year stop to the competition.
When it resumed, the FIFA World Cup rapidly advanced to its undisputed status as the greatest single sporting event of the modern world.
Held, since 1958 alternately in Europe and the Americas, the World Cup broke new ground with the Executive Committee’s decision in May 1996 to select Korea and Japan as co-hosts for the 2002 edition.
Since 1930, the 16 tournaments have seen only seven different winners. However, the FIFA World Cup has also been punctuated by dramatic upsets that have helped create footballing history — the United States defeating England in 1950, North Korea’s defeat of Italy in 1966, Cameroun’s emergence in the 1980s and their opening match defeat of the Argentinean cup-holders in 1990.
Today, the FIFA World Cup holds the entire global public under its spell.
An accumulated audience of over 37 billion people watched the France 98 tournament, including approximately 1.3 billion for the final alone, while over 2.7 million people flocked to watch the 64 matches in the French stadia.
After all these years and so many changes, however, the main focus of the FIFA World Cup remains the same — the glistening golden trophy which is the embodiment of every footballer’s ambition.
